Cyber Wellness

Technology is an essential part of learning in today’s world. Computing devices and access to the Internet have become a necessity for work, play and learning in the 21st century. The EVG Personal Learning Device (PLD) Initiative is designed to nurture our students for the digital economy and guide them in developing good Cyber Wellness habits. It is thus important that all students abide by the rules stated in this Acceptable Use Policy (AUP) to help create a safe and conducive learning environment in Evergreen Secondary School for yourself and your friends.

CYBER WELLNESS POLICY

All EVGians are to show respect for self and others and to practice safe and responsible use of the Internet.

Cyber Wellness Acceptable Use Policies (AUP)

1.               Respect yourself and others when online. Demonstrate mutual respect and Internet etiquette (netiquette) in communication by using appropriate language.

2.               Integrity in safeguarding your user account. Do not share your user account or use the account of others. Log off immediately when you are not using your user account.

3.               Cite references. Respect the work of others. Do not copy and paste their work.

4.               Evaluate consequences of your decision/behaviour while online and make safe and responsible choices to protect yourself and the community.

EdTech resources include the following, but are not limited to:

• Learning devices (e.g. iPad Personal Learning Devices (PLDs), school devices)

• ICT system accounts (e.g. Singapore Student Learning Space (SLS), iCON); and school internet networks.

Consequences of Non-Compliance

Failure to adhere to the policy and guidelines above may result in the suspension or termination of your user account.

In serious cases, you may also face disciplinary action in school and/or prosecution in the court of law if you use your user account for illegal purposes.

Tips on Cyber Wellness

1.               Learn to protect yourself by using strong passwords which must be kept confidential.

2.               Be careful with whom you chat with or befriend online; remember they are people you are not seeing in person.

3.               Learn to be careful at all times by not revealing personal information online or sharing it on social media.

4.               Show respect by not posting hurtful remarks about others or adding on to such comments by others.

5.               Seek help from parents, teachers or the school counsellor if you have been hurt or bullied by others online.

6.               Balance your time well by not spending more than 1 – 2 hours per day on social media or the Internet or online games.

7.               Adopt a healthy lifestyle by having other hobbies like reading, sports activities or aesthetic activities like singing and dancing.

8.               Be careful not to surf inappropriate sites.

9.               Be wise not to participate in illegal online activities.

10.             Be mindful about Intellectual Property rules by not using or downloading copyrighted materials without permission.

EVG GUIDELINES ON USE OF DIGITAL MEDIA

Digitally Empowering Caring Leaders and Thinking Citizens

Digital media (e.g. Social media & AI) allows people to create, share or exchange information, ideas and images in virtual communities and networks.

All EVGians are expected to be digitally empowered Caring Leaders and Thinking Citizens through responsible actions on digital media by observing the following guidelines.

Photographs or video images of you and your legal guardians may be taken during school activities and events such as classroom lessons, CCA, school camps, or school concerts. The school may use and publish such photographs or video recordings in school publications, the school website, social media channels, or other communication channels.
